The Mysteries of Udolpho

Originally published in 1794, The Mysteries of Udolpho is Radcliffe's most popular novel and is considered the archetypal Gothic novel. It is about Emily St. Aubert, who suffers misadventures that include the death of her mother and father and supernatural terrors in a gloomy castle.
