Jordan is the model Baptist kid, following in his parents' footsteps by living the word of Christ. As he nears adolescence, a growing understanding of sin coincides with an undeniable pattern of same-sex attraction. Jordan finds himself-the perfect Christian teen-grappling with the most abominable of transgressions. After various attempts to suppress his feelings, Jordan comes to grips with being gay, but he finds himself alone, feeling the pain of not being accepted as his true self. Depressed and broken, Jordan ventures to Chicago to build a life and explore his gender identity. But a war rages within him that pushes him to the edge. In the aftermath of a near tragedy, Jordan knows he must find a new path of healing...and it is one of reconciliation and an understanding that none of us are made in error. Genesis is a memoir that reveals the traumas and trials of being gay within the church. It is a recollection of a gender identity battle fueled by years of teaching that being gay is wrong accompanied by forced gender role norms. This account starts a conversation about gender identity and LGBTQ+ acceptance in the church. The road is long, but new patterns of thinking are achieved, along with the realization that no one is outside of God's love.
