In Chile, terminus 9/11 has a different meaning: on 11 September 1973 the Chilean military staged a coup and ended almost four decades of uninterrupted democratic rule in the country. Following the death of Chilean president Salvador Allende, General Augusto Pinochet installed a military junta that remained in power until 1990.
